• Private accommodation on the Zambezi - The Princess Mary Suite - Zambia

Princess Mary Suite

A luxurious double storey villa situated in a secluded garden with a private pool, the Princess Mary Suite offers an intimate experience for families or groups of friends seeking privacy and space.

Named after the Royal Princess Mary, who represented the Queen at Zambia's Independence in 1964, the suite is just as enigmatic and charming as the person to whom it pays homage.

The suite can accommodate two to six guests. There is a master en-suite room upstairs, with private balcony overlooking the Zambezi River. Downstairs, there is a twin-single-bedroom and a second bathroom, not en-suite. Two additional single beds can be arranged in the lounge to accommodate a total of six guests.

The ground floor comprises a lounge area, mini-bar and dining area. Guests may choose to dine privately in the comfort of the suite or join our other guests at the main lodge. The upstairs bathroom has a shower, double vanity and lavatory with the bath located in the spacious bedroom overlooking the River. The roomy downstairs bathroom has a double vanity, shower and lavatory.

Princess Mary Suite:

Our Princess Mary Suite is named after Mary, the Princess Royal, aunt of Queen Elizabeth II. She was particularly close to her eldest brother, the Prince of Wales, who subsequently became Edward VIII (who was known as David to his family).

After the abdication crisis, she and her husband went to stay with the former Edward VIII, by then created Duke of Windsor, at Enzenfeld Castle near Vienna. Later, in November 1947, she allegedly declined to attend the wedding of her niece, Princess Elizabeth, to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten to protest the fact that the Duke of Windsor had not been invited. She gave ill health as the official reason for her non-attendance. She attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953 and later represented the Queen at the independence celebrations of Trinidad and Tobago in 1962, and Zambia in 1964.
