Staff Relief Fund

For the past 20 years, The River Club has been actively involved in supporting and improving the lives of the 4,000 inhabitants of nearby Simonga Village. Not only do many of our staff hail from Simonga, but various health and educational projects have been funded by income generated from the lodge's hospitality operations.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation we are facing and as a result of global travel bans, the lodge has temporarily closed (we are however taking bookings for future stays). Our staff and their wellbeing remain a primary concern; various measures have been put in place to ensure that not only will every team member retain their position during this strenuous time (when many lodges and hotels are laying staff off), but that they are also cared for, so that they in turn can continue providing for their families and community.

The River Club has launched a Staff Relief Fund, of which 100% of proceeds generated will go to our Zambian staff living in the local community. By entering our lucky draw you will directly contribute to the fund. All proceeds are fully accounted for and will be divided equally amongst Zambian staff members during this time of uncertainty. ABSA Bank of Zambia have given us an account, free of all charges once the money enters Zambia. Account details are further down in this email.

Should you wish to enter our lucky draw, every $50 donated will be awarded a ticket to win up to 3 nights for 2 on a full board basis at The River Club. This includes all meals (breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and 3-course dinner), house-brand wine during lunch and dinner, all soft drinks, daily laundry, Wi-Fi and one in-house sunset cruise (with snacks and house-brand drinks included).

First prize includes a 3 night stay for 2 sharing; 2nd prize, 2 nights for 2, and 3rd prize, a 1 night stay for 2. Please use your name as a reference and email POP to theoffice@theriverclubzambia.com should you wish to be entered. Winners will be announced on 15 October 2020.

Resident co-owner of The River Club, Peter Jones, is also making his private plot of land nearby on the banks of the Zambezi available to the staff members and their families to farm their own produce. At Peter's own expense the land has been prepared for farming and electric fencing has been installed to protect crops. In addition, seeds for the crops and irrigation will be supplied.
